TAILGATE SPOTLIGHT: Glen Sommerville

Edmonton Elks games are exciting, but its the great fans of the Double E that make them a special experience. The gameday experience has become even better with the introduction of the EE Tailgate. Because of our great fans, the tailgate has become the go-to spot for fans to mingle before the game.

Over the course of the season, we want to highlight the incredible Season Seat Members that make the tailgate so special. We spoke with Glenn Sommerville to see what he loves about the unique to football experience.

What made you want to take part in the EE Tailgating?

My first NFL game in Buffalo 25 years ago was an incredible experience. We arrived 5 hours before kickoff and there must have 50,000 people tailgating before a game in December. Once I became aware of a tailgating opportunity at CFL games in Edmonton, I had to become a part of it.

What has the gameday experience been like since you’ve started tailgating?

Very festive, everyone is in good spirits as we get closer to kickoff. It is a great way to get together with friends that are attending the game

What is the best part about tailgating?

I love outdoor cooking so any excuse to fire up the portable BBQ works for me, but getting together with fellow fans of the EE for food and drinks pregame is the best part.

How has the atmosphere changed from the first year to now?

There is definitely more people around as there has become more awareness of the tailgating event and this definitely makes the atmosphere better. I think the band that performs during the tailgate adds to the festive atmosphere as well.

What would say to fans who have never checked out the tailgate?

You really need to check it out. If you’re attending the game it really adds to the gameday experience, provides a little more value to your ticket purchase, and you never know who you will run into.
