This Saturday, the Edmonton Elks will host Indigenous youth from the Capital District Minor Football Association for a special camp at Commonwealth Stadium.
Camp attendees will get to interact and learn from Edmonton Elks players including multi-time CFL All-Stars Manny Arceneaux and Ed Gainey, CFL tackles leader Nyles Morgan, team reception leader Kyran Moore, and veteran offensive lineman Brett Boyko.
Additionally, youth attending the camp will have an opportunity for autographs and photos with players and will get to take home a signed special orange Elks jersey.
We’ve partnered with Indigenous artists and communities across the country to observe and reflect on tomorrow’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Saturday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day where Canadians reflect upon the experiences and history of First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities in Canada. It is a day to acknowledge, reflect, and learn about the injustices they faced through the residential school system and the ways it continues to affect Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
Last month, the Elks teamed up with the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta for a sleepover and football camp. Nearly 60 Indigenous youth attended the Green and Gold’s game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and got to sleep over outdoors at Commonwealth Stadium, before taking part in a morning of football activities and interacting with Elks players.
“On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, it’s important our communities come together for reflection and learning,” said Rick Lelacheur, Elks Interim President and CEO. “As an important part of the community, our football club is grateful for the opportunity to engage with our Indigenous youth through our football programming and provide them with what we hope will be a tremendous experience that creates lasting memories.”
Don’t miss the Green and Gold’s final home game of the regular season when the Elks host the Montreal Alouettes on Oct. 14. Click here to get your tickets now and be part of the tradition.
