Overview
The Edmonton Elks and Thompson Family Foundation proudly offer three athletic scholarships annually to support cheer and dance athletes pursuing post-secondary education in Edmonton. These scholarships aim to recognize excellence, commitment, and community spirit, while also ensuring recipients remain active, contributing members of the Edmonton Elks Cheer Team.
What is available?
Full Tuition Scholarship
• Quantity: 1 awarded annually
• Annual Cap: $8,000/year
• Total Value (Max): $32,000 over 4 years
• Eligibility: Full-time enrolment (considered 4+ courses per semester) in an approved post-secondary institution, good standing with Cheer Canada, good academic standing, active member of the Edmonton Elks cheer team
• Award Schedule: Up to $8,000/year for 4 years
• Renewal: Each year requires tryouts and code of conduct compliance
Escalating Scholarship
• Quantity: 2 awarded annually
• Total Value: $15,000 over 4 years per recipient
• Eligibility: part time enrollment (3 course minimum) in an Edmonton post-secondary institution, good academic standing, good standing with Cheer Canada, active member of the cheer team
• Award Schedule: Year 1: $3,000, Year 2: $3,000, Year 3: $4,000, Year 4: $5,000
• Renewal: Each year requires tryouts and code of conduct compliance

• Selection Criteria: Leadership, athletic ability, academic record
• Application Requirements: Form, transcript, personal statement, reference letter

Additional Eligibility & Application Requirements
• Must be in good standing with Cheer Canada
• Must submit most recent high school or post-secondary transcript
• Letter of recommendation from coach, teacher or community leader
• Brief overview of extracurricular involvement, leadership roles and volunteer experience
• A video may be required to showcase skills depending on location
Ongoing Requirements for Renewal
• Athlete must maintain full-time status and meet GPA requirements annually
• Active participation in practices, performances and community events
• Athletes must volunteer a minimum of 1 community event per semester for partial and 2 community events per semester for full.
• Written summary of check-in interview with the EE cheer team coaches and TFF outlining contributions and experiences at the end of each football season
