Eskimos Team Winners Announced for 2019 CFL Awards

Today, the Canadian Football League announced team winners for the 2019 CFL Awards. Eskimos recipients are:

In this first ballot, FRC representatives from each CFL city, plus the respective head coach, submitted votes for the six categories. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club who, through on-field excellence, best represent the award titles.

The 2019 Shaw CFL Awards will be handed out on Thursday, November 21 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.

Trevor Harris | Quarterback | Most Outstanding Player

Through 13 games (13 starts), Harris has completed 343-478 passes (71.8%) for 4,027 yards and 16 touchdowns and six interceptions, while also rushing 48 times for 139 yards and six touchdowns. He currently leads the CFL in completions and is second in yards thrown. Harris was named a CFL Player of the Week in Weeks 1 and 10 and CFL Player of the Month in June and August. This is Harris’s first season with the Green and Gold.

Larry Dean | Linebacker | Most Outstanding Defensive Player

In 17 games (17 starts), Dean leads the Eskimos and is second in the CFL with 89 total tackles and one quarterback sack. This is Dean’s first season with the Green and Gold.

David Beard | Centre | Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman

Beard is an integral member of the offensive line and has played and started in 17 games at centre this season.

Kwaku Boateng | Defensive Line | Most Outstanding Canadian

In 17 games (17 starts), Boateng has 18 defensive tackles and eight quarterback sacks. This is Boateng’s second nomination for the Eskimos Most Outstanding Canadian in a row.

Sean Whyte | Kicker | Most Outstanding Special Teams Player

In 17 games (17 starts), Whyte is a league-leading 47-53 on field-goal attempts and 32-33 on extra-point attempts. He also has 35 punts for 1,476 yards and 24 kickoffs for 1,403 yards. In Weeks 3 and 11, Whyte converted a career-high 7-7 field goals. Whyte also has one single. He had a a streak of 25-made field goals in a row this season. This is Whyte’s second nomination for the Most Outstanding Special Teams Player nomination in a row.

Vontae Diggs | Linebacker | Most Outstanding Rookie

The Green and Gold rookie has appeared in 17 games (15 starts), Diggs has 64 defensive tackles, 10 special teams tackles, two quarterback sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries for 15 yards. He also has one interception which he returned 19 yards.
