Eskimos running back CJ Gable and quarterback Mike Reilly are CFL Players of the Week for Week 21 for their performances in Edmonton’s 33-24 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Eskimos final game of the 2018 regular season.
Gable rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries and also caught two passes for 17 yards. Gable finished the 2018 season third in the CFL in rushing yards and eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his six-year CFL career finishing with 1,063 yards and seven touchdowns on 196 carries. Gable also caught 34 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown.
Reilly helped lead the Green and Gold to their ninth win of the season when he threw for 320 yards and one touchdown, completing 29 of 35 pass attempts. He also finished with 9 carries for 41 yards.
Reilly finished the 2018 season as the CFL’s leader in passing yards with 5,562, second overall in passing touchdowns with 30. He also finished second in the CFL with 13 rushing touchdowns.
This is Gable’s second time being named a CFL Play of the Week (Week 3) and this is the eighth time Reilly has received national honours this season – He was previously named a CFL Player of the Week for Weeks 1, 7, 10, 13 and 18. He was also CFL Player of the Month for June and August.
CFL Players of the Week are chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
