Eskimos to Host Edson Mosque Youth

When the Edmonton Eskimos host the BC Lions this Friday, the Green and Gold will host 25 youth from the Islamic Society of Edson.

The youth attend the mosque that was the site of a suspected arson last week. No one was injured in the blaze that Edson RCMP have deemed suspicious. The mosque serves 15 families in Edson and travelers from surrounding areas.

“Any act of hate aimed towards any of our fellow citizens goes against our football club’s set of community values. We stand with the Muslim community and welcome them with open arms. Diversity is strength and that is what we celebrate,” says Len Rhodes, President & CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos.

The youth will attend their very first CFL game in the Save-On-Foods Family Huddle section – a family-friendly, alcohol-free section at The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium.

“This is what makes Canada such a great country; It’s people and how we respond to adversity. Thank you Edmonton Eskimos for being such a wonderful and gracious neighbour,” says Ahmed Ali of the Islamic Society of Edson.

The Edmonton Eskimos welcome the mosque youth on Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Night, presented by EPCOR, this Friday June 29. Kickoff is 8 p.m.
