Esks Cheer Team to March in Pride Parade This Saturday

The Edmonton Eskimos Cheer Team, presented by Bedrock Homes, will march in the Edmonton Pride Parade this Saturday, June 9.

“As a community-owned team, we celebrate diversity and advocate for inclusiveness. Diversity is strength,” says Len Rhodes, President & CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos.

The cheer team will join other local sports organizations to march with You Can Play as part of Team Edmonton’s contingent. Team Edmonton supports LGBTQ2S+ community friendly sports in Edmonton by encouraging participation in inclusive, affordable actives offered through community-based sports and recreation groups that unite under the Team Edmonton umbrella, including fitness, individual/team sports and social/hobby events.

“The Eskimos, and the CFL as a whole, clearly have a sincere interest in promoting inclusion in sport and in the communities they serve. We are honoured to march with them as partners in that effort,” says Ryan Pettengill, Executive Director, You Can Play.

You Can Play is the LGBTQ2S+ community educational advocacy partner of the CFL since 2014. The organization is dedicated to ensuring equality, respect and safety for all athletes, without regard to sexual orientation.

This year marks the cheer team’s second participation in the annual event. The Edmonton Pride Parade runs 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and begins on Whyte Avenue at 82 Avenue and 104 Street.
