The Eskimos mourn the passing of James “Quick” Parker.
Parker began his career in Edmonton in 1980. He spent the next four seasons with the Green and Gold where he won three consecutive Grey Cups (1980-1983).
Parker signed with BC in 1984 and spent five seasons with the Lions (1984-1990). He won his fifth Grey Cup in 1985 and was named Grey Cup Defensive Player of the game.
He finished his career in Toronto after spending two seasons with the Argonauts (1990-1991).
Regarded as one of the best defensive ends in CFL history, Parker was a six-time Western All-Star (1981-1986), a five-time CFL All-Star (1981, 1982, 1984-1986) and a three-time CFL Defensive Player of the Year (1982, 1984, 1986).
Parker set the Eskimo record for most quarterback sacks in a single season with 18.5 in 1981. In 1984, Parker set the CFL record for the most quarterback sacks in a single season with 26.5. His 139.5 all-time quarterback sacks ranks fourth most in CFL history.
The Canadian Football Hall of Fame inducted Parker in 2001. In 2006, TSN voted Parker as one of the CFL’s Top 50 players (#21) of the league’s modern era.
The Edmonton Eskimos extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family.
