Today, the Canadian Football League named five Eskimos to the 2015 CFL All-Star Team – tying the Green and Gold for the highest representation of any team.
Eskimos named to the CFL All-Star Team are:
- Receiver Adarius Bowman
- Receiver Derel Walker
- Defensive tackle Almondo Sewell
- Cornerback John Ojo
- Defensive back Aaron Grymes
#4 Adarius Bowman | Receiver
Bowman recorded 1,304 receiving yards on a league-high 93 catches with a career-high seven touchdowns in 17 games (17 starts). He added five 100+ yard receiving games this season, including a 12-catch, 208-yard performance where he hauled in one touchdown pass in Week 18 against Saskatchewan. During the 103rd Grey Cup Playoffs, the Oklahoma State product recorded six catches for 74 yards and one touchdown in the West Final against Calgary. In the Grey Cup championship game, Bowman had four receptions for 73 yards, highlighted by a 23-yard touchdown in the first quarter. This is Bowman’s second consecutive All-Star nod.
#87 Derel Walker | Receiver
The 2015 CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie began the season on the Eskimos practice roster before he was activated in Week 8. Walker went on to set a team receptions record for first-year players after amassing 89 catches for 1,110 yards with six touchdowns in 12 games (10 starts). During the 103rd Grey Cup Playoffs, the Texas A&M product led the team in receiving in the West Final against Calgary with 11 receptions for 125 yards and one touchdown. In the Grey Cup championship game, he had four receptions for 56 yards. This is Walker’s first All-Star nod.
#90 Almondo Sewell | Defensive Tackle
A veteran member of the Eskimos defensive line, Sewell recorded 35 defensive tackles and four quarterback sacks while starting every game this season. During the 103rd Grey Cup Playoffs, Sewell recorded three defensive tackles and one forced fumble in the West Final against Calgary. In the Grey Cup championship game, he added three more defensive tackles. This is the third consecutive CFL All-Star nod for the Akron Zips alumnus.
#26 John Ojo | Cornerback
The rookie started every game this season at the cornerback position and recorded 43 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles and added one fumble recovery. He also finished second in the CFL with five interceptions, highlighted by his first career interception – a 57-yard pick returned for a touchdown against Ottawa in Week 3. The Florida A&M product recorded four defensive tackles in the West Final against Calgary. In the Grey Cup championship game, he recorded one defensive tackle and one special teams tackle. This is Ojo’s first All-Star selection.
#36 Aaron Grymes | Defensive Back
In 16 games, Grymes recorded a career-high 43 defensive tackles, as well as four interceptions, one returned for a touchdown. He also added two special teams tackles, one quarterback sack and one fumble recovery. In the Grey Cup championship game, the University of Idaho product recorded three defensive tackles against Ottawa. This is the three-year veteran’s second consecutive All-Star nod.
CFL All-Stars are selected by head coaches and the Football Reporters of Canada. In total, 75 voters selected the 27 All-Stars. This is the 53rd year the league has recognized the season’s best as All-Stars.
