Eskimos Dominate CFL Players of the Week

The Canadian Football League has named Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly and wide receiver Derel Walker Players of the Week for their performances in Edmonton’s 40-22 victory over the Montreal Alouettes last Sunday that clinched first place in the West Division and the West Final playoff game on home turf.

Engineering the Eskimos eighth consecutive victory, Reilly completed 29-of-35 passes for 308 yards with three touchdown passes, putting up 10 points in the first two drives alone. The native of Kennewick, WA, also rushed for 16 yards on six carries.

In 10 games (nine starts) this season, Reilly completed 214-of-329 passes for 2,449 yards, 15 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. He also rushed 66 times for 324 yards and two touchdowns.

This is Reilly’s second consecutive CFL Player of the Week Award and his third of the season. He first earned the honour in Week 12 and again in Week 18.

Rookie receiver Walker set a team receptions record for first-year players after amassing 89 catches for 1,110 yards in 12 games (10 starts).  . 

In the first quarter, Walker recorded 57 yards on five catches and a touchdown. He went on to collect a total of 11 receptions for 127 yards and three touchdowns, doubling his season touchdown total.

The former Texas A&M Aggie sits fifth in the league in receiving yards and second in catches.

This is Walker’s fourth league award this season. He was named a CFL Player of the Week for Weeks 10 and 14 and a CFL Player of the Month for August.

CFL Players of the Week are chosen by a panel of judges including former CFL players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
