Eskimos wide receiver Derel Walker has been named a CFL Player of the Week for his performance in Edmonton’s 29-23 victory over the BC Lions last Saturday.
The first-year Eskimo led the team in receptions with eight and in receiving yards with 121, including a 43-yard catch from quarterback Mike Reilly on the opening drive. In the final play of the third quarter, Reilly and Walker connected in the endzone on a successful two-point convert. With just over two minutes left in the game, Walker caught a 21-yard touchdown from Reilly to give Edmonton a 24-23 lead.
To date, Walker has amassed 679 yards on 49 catches. The former Texas A&M Aggie sits ninth in the league in receiving yards after playing seven games with five starts.
This is Walker’s third league award this season. He was named a CFL Player of the Week for Week 10 and a CFL Player of the Month for August.
CFL Players of the Week are chosen by a panel of judges including former CFL players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
