(Edmonton) – The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club is mourning the passing of former Eskimo Harry Hobbs who passed away on December 6 at the age of 87.
Hobbs was part of the inaugural Eskimo team, playing for the green and gold in 1949 and 1950.
A native of Windsor, Ontario, Hobbs moved to Calgary when he was 16-years-old. He played for his home team as part of the very first edition of the Stampeders in 1945. Harry threw the first touchdown pass in Stampeder history — a 60-yard completion to George Alexander in the 1945 West Division final.
Hobbs is survived by his wife, Dorothy, son Harry, daughter Barb Noble, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A celebration of his life will be held at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf & Country Club in Edmonton on Saturday at 1 p.m.
