Esks pledge to end violence against women

It’s not ok to hit women. (Or anyone for that matter.)

To support women experiencing domestic violence, Eskimo President and CEO Len Rhodes and Head Coach Kavis Reed took a pledge to “never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.”

The pledge is part of the award-winning “White Out Domestic Violence” campaign. The campaign includes large banner images at Edmonton City Centre Mall of Rhodes, Reed and well-known Albertans, including Premier Alison Redford and Mayor Stephen Mandel, taking the pledge to raise awareness of domestic violence and support those experiencing it.

Check out the banners at Edmonton City Centre until the end of the year. While there, show your support by heading to the guest services desk on the east side of the mall to get a white ribbon for a minimum one dollar donation. Edmonton City Centre will match all donations and proceeds go to the Alberta Council of Women’s Shelters.

As part of the Eskimo commitment to women in our community, the club, in partnership with the adidas Group, donated over 400 pairs of shoes in early November to the Edmonton Women’s Shelter, commonly known as WIN House, to help ease the burden of women leaving domestic violence – often with only the clothes on their backs. The shoes are the largest donation ever received by the shelter.
