Clint Kent‘s two special teams touchdowns this year say it all: The Edmonton Eskimo linebacker has a knack for big plays.
Kent was back in action on Friday after missing three games with a knee injury that he picked up against his former team, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, back in Week 3 of the CFL season.
Late in the fourth quarter of Friday’s game, Montreal Alouette kicker/punter Sean White had his punt deflect off of a teammate and land on Montreal’s five-yard line.
Kent was the first man to the ball and quickly tucked it up into his arms and ran it in for the score.
“It would have felt better (to score earlier),” Kent said. “We took an L (loss on Friday), so we just have to get better for next week.”
Kent credited his teammates for not quitting when the game had slipped away from Edmonton. Montreal led 28-8 at the half.
“That’s something,” he said. “As a team, we never want to quit. We kept playing in the fourth quarter and that’s all that matters, even though we didn’t get the result we wanted.”
Eskimo head coach Kavis Reed knows Kent well.
He coached him in Winnipeg in 2010 and came to appreciate what Kent does.
“He’s a very savvy guy, very heady,” Reed said.
“He makes plays and that’s why he’s here.”
