It could be sooner rather than later when it comes to Greg Wojt’s return to the Edmonton Eskimo lineup.

The injured offensive lineman appears to be on track to draw into the lineup this week when the Saskatchewan Roughriders come to town.

“There’s a strong possibility. We’re leaning toward removing him from the nine-game (injured list),” Esks head coach Kavis Reed said Monday.

“We’re going to make certain that he makes it through a week of practice without any lingering effects from the injury that he is recovering from. If we’re confident that he can make it through a football game without any new injuries, we’ll go with him.”

Wojt, who is coming off a knee injury he suffered in Week 1 against the Toronto Argonauts, would be a major boost to Edmonton’s offensive line.

Reed is well aware of the value the 2011 West Division All-Star would have in stabilizing his O-line.

“Greg is an All-Star guard for us. We’ve been mixing and matching guys at that position to try to make certain that we get through until we got him healthy,” Reed said. “Now having him healthy, hopefully we’ll be able to re-add him and he’ll be able to be there long term.”

Working way back

Fellow offensive lineman Devin Tyler ran through a full practice with the Esks on Monday.

Tyler, who rejoined the team Sunday after serving a 90-day sentence for a 2011 assault charge, which stemmed from an incident in Washington, D.C., practised on Edmonton’s second unit.

“Devin looked very well. I was happy to see that his cardio was pretty good. He didn’t tap out,” Reed said.

“We worked him exclusively with the second unit and we also worked him on the scout team the entire time, to make sure physically he was in the shape we need him to be in.”

As for a possible return, next week against Montreal could mark the left tackle’s 2012 CFL debut.

“This week is going to be a long, long shot for him. We will definitely look at Montreal as the target point for him,” Reed said.
