(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos will hold their second annual Coaches Clinic this weekend; proudly sponsored by Save-On-Foods. There will be 130 minor, junior and high school football coaches attending  the interactive, one-day clinic on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. This year the Eskimos have added the ability for coaches to take their National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) coaching certification on Friday and Sunday, along with attending the Coaches Clinic on Saturday.

The all-day event will include both classroom and on-field instruction with current members of the Eskimo coaching staff.  Head Coach Kavis Reed and assistants, Marcus Crandell (Offensive Coordinator),  Mark Nelson (Defensive Coordinator), Terry Eisler (Defensive & Special Teams Assistant), Mookie Mitchell (Receivers), Jamie Barresi (Running Game Coordinator/Running Backs) and Tim Prinsen (O-line) will share their expertise.  Dwayne Mandrusiak (Equipment Manager) and Denzil Ottley (Assistant Athletic Therapist) will also conduct sessions, along with Alumni Shannon Garrett and Jed Roberts.

Eskimo Manager of Community & Amateur Football Relations, Brad Morgan, says registrations have been very strong again this year. “Feedback from last year’s inaugural Coaches Clinic was tremendous and there was an appreciative response towards our coaches for a job well done!”

“For 64 years the Edmonton Eskimos have provided support for Junior football,” says Edmonton Wildcat Head Coach Darcy Park.  “The commitment by the Eskimos to support player and coaching development at all levels has never been more evident. The Edmonton Wildcats are very pleased to be able to help grow grassroots football in the Edmonton area alongside the Eskimos.”

Edmonton Huskies Head Coach Rick Walters agrees. “It’s with great pride and respect that the Edmonton Huskies are involved with not only the flagship organization in the CFL, but one of the best run franchises in North America.  The support that the Eskimos have given to junior football through 50/50 tickets and now through increasing player development and individual coaching capacity is second to none.  In only its second year, this coaching clinic has already become a must attend event for all of the Northern Alberta coaches. With the support from the Eskimos, the Edmonton Huskies football club has assisted over 4000 young men transition into adulthood and become contributing members in our community.”

Sessions will focus on topics such as Preparation, Drills, Schemes, Positional Alignments, Fundamental Principles and Concepts and Personnel Assessment. The day begins at 8:00am and wraps up at 4:00pm with the various sessions taking place in the meeting rooms on the second floor, as well as technique and drill demonstrations in the field house.

The Edmonton Wildcats and Edmonton Huskies junior football teams will be helping with registration and on-field demonstrations.
