(Edmonton) Edmonton Eskimo offensive lineman Patrick Kabongo will lead a presentation this evening of a concussion risk reduction protocol to the Edmonton Chargers Football Club.
The protocol was developed by the non-profit Sports Legacy Institute (SLI), whose mission is advance the study, treatment and prevention of the effects of brain trauma in athletes and other at-risk groups.
Chris Nowinski, Co-founder & CEO of SLI, states, “Youth football players are more vulnerable to concussions than adults, so we appreciate Patrick advocating SLI’s 7 steps to Brain Safety and helping solve the concussion crisis”.
The Sports Legacy Institute has partnered with Xenith, a leading helmet manufacturer, to provide education regarding brain injuries in sport. Xenith (www.xenith.com) was founded with the goal of advancing safety and activity through innovation and education. Vin Ferrara, Founder and CEO of Xenith states, “By emphasizing innovation and education, Patrick represents what it means to be an Enlightened Warrior”.
Kabongo will also be donating Xenith X1 and X2 Football Helmets to the Chargers organization.
Susan Morgan, General Manager of the Edmonton Chargers states, “The Edmonton Chargers are committed to both player development and player safety and we’re pleased that Patrick, SLI and Xenith are taking such a proactive role in this area of our sport”.
Former Eskimo and current partner at Gil Scott Sports Management, Tim Fleiszer, will also be in attendance. The four-time Grey Cup Champion is a representative for the Sports Legacy Institute and a consultant for Xenith.
