(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos, Boys and Girls Clubs of Edmonton/Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Brick Sport Central and KidSport have joined forces on a new program to help introduce the game of football to local youth.
Eskimo offensive lineman Aaron Fiacconi, along with teammate Kyle Koch, are helping quarterback the “Cleats for Kids” campaign to gather new and used football cleats and other football equipment. Fiacconi says, “The simple gesture of a pair of cleats could be enough to get a youngster start in our great game and introduce them to the power of team sports.” Fiacconi and Koch are just two of the Eskimo players who help children with football skills at the Boys and Girls Clubs/Big Brothers Big Sisters locations during the season.
Stephen Kufske of Boys and Girls Clubs of Edmonton/Big Brothers Big Sisters says, “The goal of Cleats for Kids is to introduce football to the children who attend our clubs and programs. Many of the kids do not have a father figure or mentor in their lives, so to have Eskimo players bond with them and help them learn the sport will have a lasting and positive effect on them.”
Andy Wigston, President of the Brick Sport Central says, “We are proud to support Cleats for Kids and provide a means to distribute football shoes and equipment to local youth. This is a tremendous opportunity to engage youth in the sport of football and keep them active in positive, healthy activities.”
Cleats and other football equipment can be donated at all locations of The Brick Sport Central and all City of Edmonton Fire stations. For a complete listing of locations, please visit sportcentral.org
