(Edmonton) He won’t be making tackles, but Willie Pless will be making an impact again as an Edmonton Eskimo. The Edmonton Eskimos today announced that the Hall of Fame linebacker will serve as a community ambassador.
“The Terminator” played eight of his 14 CFL seasons with Edmonton, was an 11-time CFL All-Star and won the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award an unprecedented five times. He retired in 1999 as the CFL’s all-time leader in defensive tackles (1241). Pless’s name took its rightful place on the Eskimo Wall of Honour in 2004, and he was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
Eskimo Head Coach Kavis Reed, a former teammate of Pless, says, “Our team is undergoing significant change, lots of new faces who don’t yet know what it means to be an Edmonton Eskimo. I can’t think of a better person than Willie to share his wisdom and experience with our young players, and at the same time represent our club in the community.”
Pless, who works as a Territory Manager for Edmonton based Jagflo Components, says, “I believe in our motto “Once an Eskimo, Always an Eskimo” and am willing to help Coach Reed and the club in any way possible.”
