(Edmonton) Delux Burger Bar’s Celebrity Chef for the month of February, Nicola Crosbie, presented a cheque to Eskimo Women’s Dinner Honourary Co-Chairs Marie Stelmach and Lynn Mandel today for the funds raised from the proceeds of her delicious creation, the Nicola Burger.
With a dollar from every burger purchased going to a charity of Nicola’s choice, her tasty creation of a juicy Delux Burger Bar beef burger accompanied by cambozola, pancetta, arugula and black currant mayo all served on whole grain flat bread, raised over $2000 for the Edmonton Eskimo Women’s Ovarian Cancer Research Endowment Fund. A strong advocate of ovarian cancer research, Nicola’s choice to support the Eskimo Women’s Dinner Endowment Fund was near and dear to her heart, as her mother lost her battle to this silent cancer in 1998.
“I’m just thrilled with the success of the Nicola Burger, but not surprised, as Edmontonians are the most generous people on the planet,” says Crosbie. “I love that this charity keeps the money here in town and it’s so desperately needed. Having lost my own mother to ovarian cancer, I would truly love that no one else has to experience that loss. This research will help find a way to find this disease early which hugely increases the chance of survival.”
Originally a promotion to reward regular customers, the Delux Burger Bar Celebrity Chef Promotion began almost two years ago, giving customers a chance to create a burger that would be featured for a month. Since then the program has evolved to local celebrities with proceeds going to select charities.
Selling 2047 burgers, the Nicola Burger broke Celebrity Chef sales records as well as surpassing Nicola’s personal goal of 1000 burgers.
“Nicola has set the bar high with her sales record,” says Century Hospitality Corporate Chef Paul Shufelt. “The previous record was 671 burgers sold so the Nicola Burger stands way above the pack.”
As always, the women of Eskimo football were very appreciative of the support.
“We are always pleased when we see continual support of the Edmonton Eskimo Women’s Ovarian Cancer Research Endowment Fund,” says Honourary Co-Chair Marie Stelmach. “Great ambassadors like Nicola showing their support truly signifies how much the Edmonton community has really rallied around the cause and have helped make it the success that it currently is today.”
Lynn Mandel was also very appreciative of the success of the Nicola Burger. “With the help of the Nicola Burger and other fund raising initiatives, we are able to continue our constant support of ovarian cancer research at the Lois Hole Hospital for Women. The amount of support and awareness the women of Eskimo football have raised with the assistance of ambassadors such as Nicola, has been outstanding and we thank everyone for their contributions to help cure this silent disease.”
